Cable Ferry between New York and Vermont
Ferry travel in the US is a unique mode of transportation. (Check out this Map of all the domestic ferries in the US: United States Ferry Map) The Fort Ticonderoga Ferry is located just outside the Village of Ticonderoga, and is a unique and treasured operation – it has been shuttling travelers on Lake Champlain between Ticonderoga, New York and Shoreham, Vermont since 1759.
Today, the ferry is a power cabled ferry, meaning it uses an engine to power its way across the water connected to cables.
The ferry is seasonal, and runs from the beginning of May until the end of October, with seven-minute daytime crossings in all but the most severe weather.
