Join the Adirondack Torch Club for dinner and a talk by Bridget Simpson at 5 pm on March 1, 2018 at Libby’s Bakery Cafe Restaurant in Ticonderoga. The public is welcome. Participants order from the menu and pay for their own meal. So that we can tell Libby’s how many people to prepare for, please RSVP to [email protected] by Wednesday, February 28.

Last summer, Bridget Simpson of Ticonderoga joined a select group of people who swam the length of Lake George. Diane Struble was the first to swim Lake George in 1958. She started her swim at 9 p.m. Aug. 8 from the Lake George village docks and arrived at Diane’s Rock in Ticonderoga just after 1 a.m. Aug. 10. She will talk about the preparation involved in such a marathon swim, including the team she gathered around her to support her, the rules she had to follow to qualify for completing the swim, and her actual experience of swimming Lake George last summer. She welcomes questions. Ask them at the meeting and/or submit them beforehand here.

Bridget Simpson has been a Masters Swimmer since 1999. Now a Masters Coach, she trained independently to swim Lake George as a way to celebrate facing 50. While working part-time jobs and raising a ten-year-old, Bridget explored unconventional ways to gain the physical and mental power to accomplish the solo swim. More importantly, the intrepid members of Team 32 came together to train and support the swim. Come to the meeting of Torch Club on March 1 and find out how you might participate in a big adventure like this!
