The Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War (SUVCW) is a fraternal organization dedicated to preserving the history and legacy of heroes who fought and worked to save the Union. Our membership is composed of male descendants of Soldiers, Sailors, Marines, or Revenue Cutter Service who were regularly mustered into Federal Service and served honorably in, or were honorably discharged from, or died in the service of the Army or Navy of the United States during the War of the Rebellion, 1861-1865.

Organized Nationally in 1881, here in New York State in 1883 and chartered by Congress in 1954, we are the legal successor to the Grand Army of the Republic. More than 400 men enjoy the benefits of membership in the only male organization dedicated to the principles of the GAR — Fraternity, Charity, and Loyalty. It publishes “The VOLUNTEER” issued thrice a year for its members. The SUVCW holds its state meetings aka encampments with the allied orders throughout the state of New York. We are joined by our allied orders the Auxiliary to the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War and the Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War 1861-1865.
