Downhill & Cross Country Skiing Near Ticonderoga

Ticonderoga offers all sorts of outdoor winter fun! Winter hiking, snowshoeing, ice skating and snowmobiling, and downhill and cross country skiing.  Did you know Ticonderoga is a surprisingly convenient launching point to many different cross country ski trails and downhill ski resorts in northern New York and western Vermont?

Here’s a list of cross-country and downhill resorts within a two-hour drive of “Ti.”

Skiing NY

West Mountain

Queensbury, NY. Just three miles off I-87 Northway Exit 18 offering skiing, boarding, terrain parks, tubing park, with 30 trails ranging from easy beginner to expert. Offers 4-and 8-hour passes.

Gore Mountain

“More Gore!” 793 Peaceful Valley Road, North Creek, NY. Family-friendly ski and ride resort with four peaks with scenic vistas, 109 trails and 2,357 vertical feet. Gore offers skiing for all ability levels, a terrain park for boarders and high-speed lifts. Group rates available. From Ticonderoga, take I-87 Northway to Exit 23. Warrensburg.

Dynamite Hill Recreation Area

Chestertown, NY. A free sledding, skiing and snowboarding area for residents and visitors. Open weekends and evenings (Friday and Saturday) weather permitting. Warming hut and rope tow. A perfect place for beginners and families with young children. From Ticonderoga, take I-87 Northway to Exit 25.

Okemo Mountain Resort

Ludlow, VT. Four-season family-oriented resort offering skiing, snowboarding, snow-tubing, an Ice House, and even a Snow Cat Dining Adventure. Trails for all skiing and boarding abilities. 77 Okemo Ridge Road, Ludlow VT. Two hours from Ticonderoga.

Pico Mountain Resort

Magic Mountain, “The Legend Lives On

”Londonderry, VT. Challenging terrain, tree-skiing, with intermediate and novice trails as well. A perfect mountain for adventurous and “hardy” skiers. 495 Magic Mountain Access Road, Londonderry, VT. One hour 45 minutes from Ticonderoga.

Mount Snow

West Dover, VT. Great family ski and board area, with the largest freestyle terrain area in the East. Eight open parks and more than 100 unique features. Just a little over two hours from Ticonderoga. 39 Mount Snow Road, West Dover, VT.

Cross-Country Ski and Snowshoe Trails

Lake Champlain Region – Choose from Roger’s Rock, Ausable Marsh, Crown Point Historic Site, Ticonderoga Bicentennial Park, and Wildway Overlook. Each area offers a variety of terrains and scenery, perfect for snow-shoeing and cross country skiing. Some trails go through campground and picnic areas, where visitors can have lunch surrounded by the Adirondacks. These trails are within easy reach of Ticonderoga.

North Warren Cross-Country Trails, North Warren region. Miles and miles of trails for all levels of cross-country skiers, including groomed and natural terrain. Check out: Caroline Fish Memorial Trail, Pharaoh Lake Wilderness Area, Gull Pond and Spectacle Trail Ponds, Garnet Hill Cross-Country Ski Center, Cunningham’s Ski Barn, Friend’s Lake Inn Snowshoe Center Cross-Country Trail, and Warren County Nordic Ski System. All within one – to one and a half hours from Ticonderoga.
